From organizing cultural and environmental events to educational and enjoyable community-building activities, we're dedicated to fostering lasting memories of elementary school years for our students.
Your participation as parents is vital in achieving this goal. As a proud member of the nation's largest volunteer-led child-advocacy association, we cater to students from TK/K to 5th grade within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Come be a part of something meaningful!

ADVOCACY ALERT!
3/7/2025 12:09 pm
The City of Santa Monica is holding a special budget hearing on Saturday, March 8th at 9 am at the Santa Monica Main Library's Multi-Purpose Room (601 Santa Monica Blvd.). The City Council will be considering how to close a multi-million dollar budget shortfall, and that may impact the funding that the City gives to our district. Teacher and program cuts may be on the line. The McKinley PTA is encouraging school parents to show up to the hearing to ask the City Council to not cut funding to our schools! Read here for more information about what's on the line for the City and our district. Here's a primer on the City budget as well written by McKinley PTA dad Juan Matute.

Dear Mayor Lana Negrete and Honorable Councilmembers,
As involved and concerned Santa Monica residents and parents of school-age children at McKinley Elementary, and in advance of the March 8 Special Joint Meeting and Council Budget Workshop, we wanted to take the opportunity to share our perspective on priorities for the City of Santa Monica.
The City has long been a powerful partner to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. We truly appreciate the support the City has provided. This ongoing financial support has helped the District to minimize (but not eliminate) the volatility of income planning and made possible the District’s renowned curriculum and moderate class sizes.
As you assess priorities for the coming biennial budget, we urge you to place sustained and ongoing support of the SMMUSD at the very highest level of priority. This week, the SMM Council of PTAs executive board pledged its support of maintaining current City funding to the District into the future. We cannot imagine a greater investment in the future of our city than continued funding of the education system. The benefits are well known: excellent schools lead to developing a cohort of productive and responsible citizens and taxpayers, and also attract residents from around the world.
We have gratitude for the City’s longtime commitment to the District and responsiveness to us as citizens. You can count on this community to continue to work with the City to best meet the needs of the largest number of our students and families, with a focus on our most vulnerable.
We truly appreciate your work and success on issues impacting children, youth, and families in Santa Monica, and wish all the best for the future.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

Join our Staff Appreciation Week Committee!
2/10/2025 10:43 am
Staff Appreciation Week (SAW) is May 5 - 9 across the District. We celebrate the faculty and staff who make McKinley special by bringing in snacks throughout the week culminating with an awesome luncheon.
Parent Lizeth Bejarano has been organizing Staff Appreciation Week (SAW) for the past two years and will need 2-4 committee members to join her this year. She is a 5th-grade parent and will need to pass the baton to younger McKinley families as she can no longer handle this on her own, especially with 5th-grade events happening around the same time!
Here is a list of "jobs" that are needed:
