Join Us in Making a Difference at McKinley!

You don't have to be a parent to join!

At McKinley PTA, our mission revolves around creating a positive impact on the lives of all children and families. From organizing cultural and environmental events to educational and enjoyable community-building activities, we're dedicated to fostering lasting memories of elementary school years for our students.

Your participation as parents is vital in achieving this goal. As a proud member of the nation's largest volunteer-led child-advocacy association, we cater to students from TK/K to 5th grade within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Come be a part of something meaningful!

Help Make Santa Monica Boulevard Safer

The City of Santa Monica’s Mobility Team has been hard at work studying how to make Santa Monica Boulevard safer for everyone who uses it, from families walking to school, to bikers and bus riders, to drivers. Since October 2024, they’ve gathered data on crash patterns and listened to stories from community members about their daily experiences.

Now, they’re ready to share the results. At the Santa Monica Boulevard Safety Study Open House, you’ll get a first look at the proposed upgrades, including:

  • 🚸 Safer crosswalks

  • 🚦 Curb extensions for better visibility

  • 🚶 Pedestrian scramble intersections

  • 🚌 Transit improvements

This is a unique chance for our PTA community to see the plans firsthand and share feedback before decisions are finalized. If you care about safe routes to school and safer travel in our city, this is the time to get involved.

Did you know McKinley students are offered FREE FOOD to take home on the weekends?

The Weekend Bag Program (WeB) can provide SMMUSD students with nutritious, easy-to-prepare bags of food containing 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 snacks for the weekends.

The Weekend Bag Program is available to serve to all SMMUSD students. Student names are not identified to Weekend Bag Program volunteers to ensure participant privacy. Opaque plastic bags are packed by volunteers with enough shelf-stable food (including UHT milk) for breakfast, lunch, and snacks for two days. After school on Fridays, participating students pick up the food bags, usually from the school office, and stick them in their backpacks after school on Fridays.

The menus have been evaluated by a dietitian to meet federal school nutrition standards and provide a balance of healthy, nutritious non-perishable foods. Families wishing to enroll their students should contact our school’s Bilingual Community Liaison, Andrea Padilla, andreapadilla@smmusd.org 828-5011 x 65122 and fill out a Program opt-in form.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
El Programa Bolsa de Fin de Semana (WeB) proporcionará a los estudiantes de SMMUSD bolsas de comida nutritiva y fácil de prepar para los fines de semana. El Programa WeB los alumnos participantes se identifican por medio de un formulario de interés para apuntarse o por las Intermediarias Bilingües de la Comunidad (BCLs). Los nombres de los estudiantes no compartirán con los voluntarios del Programa WeB para asegurar la privacidad de los participantes. Las bolsas plásticas reutilizables son empacadas por voluntarios con alimentos de larga duración (incluyendo la leche UHT) suficientes para dos días de desayuno, almuerzo y merienda, y después las llevan a la oficina de la escuela o al espacio designado para su distribución. Los estudiantes participantes recogen las bolsas de comida y las meten en sus mochilas. Los menús han sido evaluados por un dietista para asegurar que cumplen con los estándares federales de nutrición escolar y proporcionan un balance adecuado de alimentos no perecederos, nutritivos y saludables. Las familias que desean inscribir a sus estudiantes deben contactar a Andrea Padilla, andreapadilla@smmusd.org 310 828-5011 x 65122 y llenar un formulario para apuntarse en el programa.
